Getting TrapDock to do its job

If an import fails, keep the source card and any existing copies. An incomplete or failed copy does not grant erase permission. Check the app's explanation before retrying.

What you need

Can I use one card per camera trap?

Yes, if you can complete the transfer during your visit: copy to your device or a connected drive, let TrapDock verify the copy, then choose whether to erase imported files and put the same card back. You do not need a second set of cards just for swapping full cards out and taking them home. Bring a compatible reader, enough destination space and power, and allow time for the transfer.

Saving on rotation cards does not replace a backup plan. Once the card is erased, a copy on your phone alone is still only one copy. For irreplaceable footage, keep independent copies on your device and a drive before erasing, and keep the local copy when exporting. An emergency spare card is still useful if a card fails or a transfer cannot be completed.

The card does not appear

TrapDock reaches a card through the system's file layer, so if the Files app cannot see the card, neither can TrapDock. Check the reader is seated, try the Files app first, and be aware that some bus-powered readers need more current than a phone will give them — a powered hub solves that.

A file failed verification

A file whose read-back checksum does not match does not count as verified. Keep the source, check the reader, connection and destination, and retry. Repeated failures can have several causes; do not assume the card is safe to erase or discard other copies.

An import was interrupted

Reconnect the source and destination, then use the existing import's resume or retry action. Previously verified files in that session do not need to be copied again.

Uploads are not moving

Cloud offload is optional and needs a paired Camera Trap Studio account. If a wave has stalled, the app says why in words rather than leaving you guessing — waiting for a drive, waiting for the network, out of quota, or suspended. Check whether uploads are allowed on cellular in Settings if you are away from Wi‑Fi.

Getting in touch

Use the Camtraptions contact form and mention TrapDock. Include your device and operating-system version, camera and card model, and the exact message shown. Do not send passwords, pairing codes or your only copy of a photograph.
